Twitter has been abuzz with rumours of Selena Gomez retiring her music career, but where did they come from? And more importantly, are they true?
Fans of Selena Gomez, aka Selenators, have taken to Twitter with both rumours and concerns of a potential retirement.
“I just heard a rumour that Selena Gomez is retiring and now I’m crying in bed,” tweeted one fan.
“I’m seeing tweets saying Selena Gomez is retiring from music??? I AM NOT OKAY” tweeted another.
The triple threat is about to release a Spanish EP this week, but it’s her music future which is concerning fans.
Is Selena Gomez retiring?
In short– maybe. Selena confessed that she was thinking of retiring her music career after her next album in her Vogue cover story, citing not being taken seriously as the reason. Focus t25 kickass.
“It’s hard to keep doing music when people don’t necessarily take you seriously. I’ve had moments where I’ve been like, ‘What’s the point? Why do I keep doing this?'”
She added, “‘Lose You to Love Me’ I felt was the best song I’ve ever released, and for some people it still wasn’t enough. I think there are a lot of people who enjoy my music, and for that I’m so thankful, for that I keep going, but I think the next time I do an album it’ll be different. I want to give it one last try before I maybe retire music.”
Before you rush to Twitter however, it’s important to remember that Selena was talking about potentially retiring from music alone, rather than her whole career. She also clarified that she wants to spend more time producing and “give [herself] a real shot at acting.”

What’s next for her career?
As mentioned by Selena herself, she has tended to focus on her acting career in the recent year. Currently she’s both producing and filming Hulu series Only Murders in the Building.
While she also owns her own production company called July Moon Productions, which is currently working on a horror film titled Dollhouse.
Although she may be thinking of retiring from music, Selena Gomez is releasing a Spanish EP on March 12th titled Revelación. The seven-song EP features both old and new tracks from Selena, including ones with DJ Snake and Rauw Alejandro.
